No ads, no manipulation, no owner — Swimchain's guarantees aren't policies a company could quietly change. They're consequences of protocol mechanics. This page is the mechanics. Everything here is implemented and running; the full rules are written down in thirteen open specifications.
Each of these removes a lever that platforms use to extract value from you — and replaces it with something no one controls.
Every action — posting, replying, keeping content alive — carries its own proof-of-work, and that work is the payment. Effort aggregates up a recursive block tree: actions into content blocks, content blocks into spaces, spaces into the root chain.
Creating costs the most, replying less, engaging least. There are no block rewards and nothing to speculate on. Participation is the security model.
Every engagement is its own proof-of-work, and a valid engagement resets the content's decay timer. The reset costs the same work no matter who mines it — a hundred fake accounts don't extend a lifetime, they multiply the bill.
Self-promotion isn't banned — it's just paying, every decay cycle, forever, to float content nobody else cares about. Persistence is rented, never owned.
Content decays unless the community engages — and the half-life adapts to storage pressure. Fast growth means faster decay; quiet water means content lives longer. The chain targets a bounded footprint instead of growing forever.
And any single branch that grows past 50 MiB fractures into sub-branches by content hash, so no leaf ever becomes a monolith. That's why the whole thing fits on a phone — a full node, not a light client trusting someone else's server.

If an attacker captures a chain, the community forks away — identities travel automatically, content that matters gets re-earned — and the new fork can exclude the attacker entirely. They "win" an abandoned chain.
Forks aren't failures here; they're how communities govern themselves without a government. Chain selection is a spec, not a committee.

When a group interacts mostly with each other, the network detects the cluster from chain data and gives it its own discoverable space — automatically, deterministically, with no admin deciding anything. It's a graduation, not an eviction: threads continue with a visible pointer, members keep the parent space, and the new lane is theirs to rename.
One guard: a cluster only graduates if it's a minority of the space's active participants — a space's regulars can never be "split off" from their own space. And spam handles itself: a spammer engaging only with themselves is a community of one, alone in a space nobody visits. They get exactly what they built.

Nodes cache and serve only content their user chose to look at. Nothing is pushed to your disk, nothing fetched on your behalf. Don't view it, never download it.
The chain record — who posted, when, with what work — persists independently, so you can verify something was said even after the content itself drifts away.
Contribution earns permanent, non-transferable achievements — first post, hosting streaks, bandwidth served to peers. They can't be bought, traded, or farmed, and they grant no protocol privileges.
Posters carry a reputation that decays when the community attests spam and recovers with good behavior. Accountability from a pseudonym with something to lose — not from your real name.
Posting takes seconds of memory-hard computation, deliberately. The pause interrupts impulse posting, discourages doomscrolling, and self-selects for people who mean what they write.
Engagement-optimized platforms remove friction because friction reduces extractable attention. Swimchain inverts that: friction is the defense.
